It's all
about the Children
Los Niņos:
Ignacia came to Jardin de los ninos from the Gospel Rescue Mission with her child Emmanual, 10 months of age and her daughter, Alicia who was four years of age. Though Ignacia has strong parenting skills , both children showed many signs of the stress that accompanies homelessness: anxiety and an initial inability to sleep or interact with others. Within a period of three weeks both children were happily adjusted to their friends at Jardin de los Ninos. Though Ignacia came from a very difficult past, she responded well to the case management she received and found housing, applied for AFDC and finished a GED at the nearby community college. She enrolled her daughter in Headstart and has continued her own education in ESL and computers. She attends parenting classes regularly and is excited to practice the English she has already learned. Ignacia says, "Jardin de los Ninos has helped me get on my feet. My children were happy to go to their school and it made me feel so peaceful to know that they were so well cared for."
